What should I know before posting on TikTok and Instagram?

A single post can reveal far more than you intend - not through the caption, but through the background, the timing, and the pattern that builds across everything you share. None of this means you should stop posting. A few habits let you enjoy it while keeping the oversharing in check.

What a post can give away

Where you are. Location tags, a recognisable street, a house number, a school logo, or a reflection in a window can pin down where you live, work, or study.
Your routine. Posting your commute, your gym, or your morning walk tells a stranger where to find you and when.
Other people. Friends, and especially children, who did not choose to be posted - their faces, names, and schools included.
That you are away. Posting a holiday in real time is an announcement that your home is empty.
A bigger audience than you think. A public post can be downloaded, reshared, and screenshotted, and can travel far beyond the people who follow you.
