This is a starting point, not a script - take what is useful, change what is not, and shape it around your class. It brings a Cyber Safe with Monkleton lesson into the classroom: the behaviour, not just the rule.
The big idea
When something goes wrong online, telling a trusted adult early is how it gets fixed - not how you get into trouble. And if someone says "don't tell anyone", that is a reason to tell, not to stay quiet.
Learning intentions (adapt to your class)
- I can explain that telling a trusted adult is not telling tales.
- I can name two trusted adults I could go to.
- I know that "don't tell anyone" is a warning sign.
A suggested shape
Starter (about 5 minutes)
Something has gone wrong online and you feel embarrassed. Ask: what happens if you hide it? What happens if you tell someone you trust?
Explore (about 15 minutes)
Draw out why problems usually grow when they are hidden, and why "keep this secret from the grown-ups" is a red flag rather than a promise to keep.
Practise (about 10 minutes)
Pupils name two trusted adults they could go to, and where else help is available.
Safe Check plenary (about 10 minutes)
Pupils state the rule: telling early keeps a problem small, and sooner is always better.

- Teacher note: this is a pastoral lesson. Pair it with your school's own safeguarding and pastoral approach - its named trusted adults, its reporting routes, and any helplines you signpost. For anything that raises a safeguarding concern, follow your school's policy.
